The title grants access to all 3rd cycle degree programmes (research doctorates as well as specialisation courses and 1st/2nd level masters) in accordance with the requirements established by the respective regulations.

Graduates of the GPP program are prepared to carry out high-responsibility roles in an organizational, managerial and control capacity.
The multidisciplinary competencies provided by the curriculum ensure a detailed knowledge and understanding of the workings of public administrations, thereby favoring job positions with local, regional, national, European and international organizations, public and private, or in the tertiary public sector.
Field-related competencies:
In order to carry out these functions, the degree program provides students with advanced multidisciplinary competencies in law, politics, economics, statistics, history and other social science fields.
Language skills regarding the various disciplinary lexicons is provided by advanced courses in English, which allow the student to use the competencies acquired in the areas of government and public policy even in an international context.

The second-cycle degree program prepares graduates in the following areas:
1) professional careers at an intermediate and advanced level in local, regional, national and European governments and in other public administration sectors, as well as in national and supranational organizations;
2) specialist work with public administrations and in the development of public policies in a variety of public and private sectors;
3) continued study and research (at the Master’s and PhD levels).

Knowledge required for access
To be admitted to the master's degree course, the student must have a degree in one of the following classes pursuant to Ministerial Decree 270/2004: L-14 LEGAL SERVICES SCIENCES, L-16 ADMINISTRATIVE AND ORGANIZATIONAL SCIENCES; L-36 POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS; L-37 SOCIAL SCIENCES FOR COOPERATION, DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE; L-39 SOCIAL SERVICE; L-40 SOCIOLOGY or the single-cycle master's degree LMG/01 LAW or in the corresponding degree classes pursuant to Ministerial Decree 509/1999: 02 Legal services sciences, 19 Administration sciences, 15 Political sciences and international relations, 35 Social sciences for cooperation, development and peace, 06 Social service sciences, 36 Sociological sciences, 22/S Jurisprudence, 102/S Theory and techniques of legislation and legal information, as well as a corresponding degree obtained according to the system prior to the Ministerial Decree 509/1999 and subsequent amendments and additions or a corresponding three-year university diploma. In the case of a degree in other classes, the minimum curricular requirements consist of skills and knowledge, acquired by the student in the previous training course, expressed in the form of a number of credits, referring to specific legal, political and sociological disciplines, whose specific scientific-disciplinary sectors are indicated in the teaching regulations of the master's degree course, as well as the minimum curricular requirements for students in possession of another qualification obtained abroad, recognized as suitable by the competent bodies of the University. The Teaching Regulations also define the methods for verifying the adequacy of the student's initial preparation and knowledge of the English language.

Specific educational objectives of the course of study
The second-cycle degree in Government and Public Policies, which belongs to the class of Public Administration Science (LM 63), provides a theoretical and practical preparation for the analysis and the administration of the complex political systems of the contemporary world, for the promotion, design, implementation and evaluation of administrative activities and public policies, using a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach.
The acquisition of advanced knowledge in a variety of subject areas will allow students to acquire tools for the analysis and evaluation of administrative processes, of government and, in addition, of the development of public policies and their results.
The course pays particular attention both to the legal culture, especially relevant in public administrative structures, and to the political and social sciences, economics, statistics and history, allowing students to explore issues related to different levels of government, from local to European, and to public, private or third sector institutions, working with the public. Public policies will subject of study, and will be analyzed from the point of view of demand, supply, and the instruments for their implementation, even within the framework of European integration.
The knowledge provided is also functional to professional development, to detailed cultural and scientific study, and to the acquisition of new knowledge for career advancement for those who have already entered the above-mentioned fields, in the perspective of life-long learning.
An advanced course of English is also provided, aimed at consolidating the language skills already acquired by students in degree programs and to deepen their knowledge of specialized lexicons.
In detail, the course of study proposes and establishes the following learning objectives:
1) the acquisition of advanced knowledge in six subject areas: law, economics, political science, sociology, statistics, and history;
2) the acquisition of tools for the analysis and evaluation of administrative processes, governance, the development of public policies and their results;
3) the acquisition of knowledge and tools for analysing the historical and social context of administrative action, of government, of education and the implementation of public policies;
4) the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant to the promotion, design and implementation of administrative and government activities, and public policies.
